This Friday and Saturday the Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea hosts the Smuin Ballet. Their winter program Oh, Inverted World features music from popular indie-rock band The Shins. Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 2pm. San Carlos Street and Ninth Avenue, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $55-$68.
Enjoy an evening with journalist Damian Trujillo and documentarian Professor Carolyn Brown at the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas. Damian, a native to the Salinas Valley, will showcase his 30-minute life story documentary, from farm worker in the Salinas Valley to San Jose State University to the NBC Newsroom. 5:30pm-10pm, 1 North Main Street, Salinas. $75.
Want to learn more about the Monterey Museum of Art’s newest exhibit, Chuck Close: Works on Paper? Today they show Chuck Close’s documentary which follows the contemporary artist’s career and artistic process. 2pm, 720 Via Mirada, Monterey. Free with museum admission.
Get a taste of California’s central coast at Aubergine in Carmel-by-the-Sea this evening. Rediscovering Coastal Cuisine features a 12-course menu prepared by some of the most renowned chefs from across the country. 6pm, Monte Verde at Seventh, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $250 per person.
Get ready for spring with a Fabulous Flowers and Ferns Hike with guides from the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District. The 3.3 mile hike through Garzas Creek is expected to last 3 hours. Don’t forget to bring water, snacks and lunch. 10am, East Garzas Trailhead, Big Sur. Free event.
Opera San Jose comes to the Sunset Center for an entertaining performance you do not want to miss! This two-for-one opera features works from Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Trovatore and Johann Strauss Jr.’s Die Fledermaus. 3pm, San Carlos Street and Ninth Avenue, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $48-$60.
